So first, lets talk about themes. Themes can be anything from a color scheme to Breakfeast at Tiffany's to a vintage baseball party. It is all about what you and your fiance want to do.
Advice:
- Make sure it is a theme that you both like!
- It's a day to celebrate both of you, not just one or the other.
- Search different websites and blogs for ideas!
- The Engagement Party does not have to be right after he pops the question.
- Take time to plan it (Depending on how long your engagement is going to be)
- Choose different ideas and decide togeher which one you both like.
- Make sure it is budget friendly!
- We all love Pinterest, but the majority of the ideas on there are very pricey.
- If you fall in love with a Pinterest idea, but it is out of your price range, modify it to fit in your price range.
- Make sure the theme goes with the venue!
- If you have an outdoor venue, choose an outdoor theme.
- Barn: rustic theme.

Where?
Think about the atmosphere that you want to create. Do you want a rustic theme, like in a barn, do you want a casual feel, like a cabin, or do you want a relaxed feel, like at a relatives house? This is all up to the hosts of the party, but keep in mind the distance that everyone will have to travel.
Who Hosts?
Traditionally, the bride's family hosts the first celebration. With it being 2013, traditions are not always followed. Now a days, couple's are throwing the party by themselves, and that is perfectly fine. Many times, the couple's friends may help with putting the party together! NEVER be afraid to ask.
What to Serve?
Depending on the time of day the event takes place, determines what food will be served. Many hosts will choose food that goes with the theme or multiple dishes that the bride and groom really enjoy. There is no right or wrong dish to serve, just make sure there is plenty of it.
Bored? I don't think so..
As a host, you want to make sure you have plenty of activities or games planned to keep your guests entertained.
- A great starter is to have music playing in the background. This can help any akward quite situations that may occur.
- Think of different games that everyone can participate in, especially the bride and groom.
- Guessing games.
- Questionaires about the couples.
- The bride and groom are asked questions about each other-- This could get really embarrassing!
- Don't say games: bride, groom, wedding, etc.
- Picture match game
- Have guests send in pictures prior to the party, put them in an envelope and have guests try to figure out who is who. This is a great ice breaker!
